Lake Country Mayor Considering Re-election Options

Jan 2, 2018 | 8:18 AM

The Mayor of Lake Country hasn’t decided yet if he’s going to seek re-election this fall.

James Baker says he has to take some things into consideration.

“If things are completed or all done that I would sort of like to get done then I’ll let somebody else have a go but if there’s anything that I’d like to see completed then I’ll take another run at it.”

Baker says the 4th year allows for more time to get things finished.

“When we started it was two and then three and now four. Two wasn’t long enough. Three was a little better. You could get geared up to get things happening and then get them completed in three. Four gives you even more time to get things completed.”

There are some infrastructure issues to be dealt with.

“Deficits in a lot of infrastructure in terms of sidewalks and safety for schools. Students that don’t have sidewalks to walk on.”

Baker says one of the main priorities he’s looking at is the Transportation For Tomorrow plan and making sure funds are available to do the road work that is necessary.

The biggest issue is working with the Ministry of Highways on solving the bottleneck that occurs on Glenmore Road at Highway 97.
