Jan 2, 2018 | 4:09 PM

A tragic end to what started as a heart warming story of love and survival.

Vernon businessperson Caroline Koenig has died of injuries sustained when her SUV went off Highway 6 and over an embankment east of Cherryville Dec 4th.

Her husband, Trevor Koenig, says on social media, his partner in life and business for the last 36 years passed away Dec. 22 from complications related to the crash.

Trevor went searching for his missing wife on the night of the crash and eventually located tire tracks in the snow, and then Caroline injured down an embankment.

Vernon Search and Rescue was able to bring her to safety, and she was taken to hospital with hypothermia and other injuries.

“Caroline was a warm, caring and loving lady and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her! I waited to post this until after the holiday season as Caroline would have wanted it that way,” said Trevor in a Facebook posting.

The couple owns Blenz Coffee on Anderson Way.

“We will be celebrating the life of Caroline Koenig on January 20th at the Pleasant Valley Funeral home,” says Trevor.
