Vernon Search & Rescue Spend New Year’s Eve Working

Jan 1, 2018 | 2:12 PM

While most were spending New Year’s Eve with family and friends, Vernon Search and Rescue crews and North Westside Fire Rescue members spent New Year’s Eve in search of two missing children near West Shore Estates.

S & R Manager Leigh Pearson said the two children were not familiar with the area and could have wandered anywhere.

They were eventually located by a search and rescue snowmobile team deep in the woods in a ravine and very cold.

After a short period to get their temperatures back up, they were taken to an ambulance… cold but ok.

This event capped off a record year for Vernon Search and Rescue notching 87 calls on the walls….the walls that are getting too small. Last year was a record at 77 calls and this year’s 87, a new record,  is pretty well doubled from 5 years ago.

Yes they are actually looking for either renovations to their place…or a new facility.

Search and Rescue Manager Leigh Pearson told Beach Radio News …it was fitting that they wrap up the year doing their job.
