Nearly half of the more than one-million people who packed the waterfront in Sydney, Australia to watch fireworks and ring in the New Year were tourists.

Officials estimate the event will generate about 170-million-dollars in revenue for the city and priceless publicity.

People in Regina and Winnipeg woke up to colder temperatures than Iqaluit this morning.

And there’s no relief in sight in many parts of the country until early next week.

Organizers have cancelled plans for live music and dance shows on Parliament Hill and Toronto.
