Woman Charged With DUI…Riding a Horse.

Dec 30, 2017 | 2:31 PM

OK…so it’s a slow news day.  Apparently if you live in Polk County Florida, you can’t pound back a few too many drinks and go for a ride on your horse named Bo Duke.

A Polk City woman was charged Thursday with DUI on a horse after she was seen trotting down Combee Road.

Donna Byrne, 53, also faces charges of animal neglect, a first degree misdemeanor.

A passerby called officials and said that a woman was on the street riding a horse, appeared confused and could be in danger…so Polk City deputies sprung into action.

When deputies arrived, Byrne was on the horse. She smelled of alcohol, had red eyes and staggered when she got off the horse, the police report said.

She miserably failed a field sobriety test after she got off her high horse and was charged with driving drunk.

Breath samples of .157 and .161 were recorded. That’s about twice the legal limit .08.

Byrne is often seen throughout Lakeland riding her horse named Bo Duke.

You just have to know that somewhere in Polk Country there’s a Defense Attorney who’ll say they should have checked the horse for drinking ” because maybe, members of the jury…maybe the horse was drunk…and my client was just hanging on for dear life”.
