Enderby Mayor Looks For 2018 Growth

Enderby’s Mayor says there are a number of things he’s looking forward to getting done in 2018.

Greg McCune says finishing the upgrade of Salmon Arm Drive is important to making the community accessible to everybody.

“They completed phase one and they managed to get in a retaining wall before the snow came. So, they’re a little bit ahead of phase two but that’s still going to be a fairly major project to complete.”

McCune adds a lot of discussions on a new water line across the Shuswap River is the other major infrastructure to get done.

He’s also excited about what 2018 can bring to the city’s economy.

McCune believes under the right circumstances business should have the opportunity to make some money and invest back into the community.

The city and Chamber of Commerce are working together to hire an events co-ordinator.

“That could be huge for Enderby. Along with the events that happen now, to have someone co-ordinate those but also look at other things that could be possible.”

McCune says a lot of ideas come up and just having one person to put it altogether can only benefit the city.

He says economic sustainability and growth will be important for local business as the city tries to crack the industry bubble.

“We’ve had part of that program that we had through the Rural Dividend Fund. We’re having those people look and talk to the industrial land owners to show them what basically the potential is for their land and the value that may be hidden in it.”

Phase one is done.

The next move is to get everybody to sit down and discuss the right direction in which to move.

Greg McCune says he’d like to see the city diversify through commercial and industry growth.

“And the potential is here. With some of the guys that have moved in here and some of the guys like Armadillo Trailers, stuff like that. There’s quite a few prfe-fabrication shops in town. I mean they’re all very, very successful.”

McCune says he’d like to see how to set up a transportation network for those industries with Enderby acting as a distribution hub.
