2018 To Be Lumby’s Year

Lumby’s Mayor is looking to 2018 to be a breakout year for the village in diversifying the economy.

Kevin Acton says he’s felt Lumby has been on the tipping point the last few years where things are starting to come around.

“As far as diversifying in the village itself we do have a large tract of industrial land that the owners are always working on developing. they’re always in our office with ideas. So I’m sure something is going to come forward out of there.”

One of the larger projects is the plan by True Leaf Medicine International for a marijuana production plant.

Acton knows Lumby has to be able to attract people to be successful and that means housing.

“You can’t open up a large factory or plant or diversify your economy without employees. So, our number one sort of strategy for economic development right now is creating  a useful and vibrant community that service industry.”

Acton says there’s no getting away from the fact that Lumby is a sort of bedroom community for Vernon, but it’s important to maintain a downtown core to stay local, shop local and still have a sense of community.

He adds business needs to recognize the highway goes both ways.

he hopes everyone can work together to make Lumby attractive for growth.

“It really is a big part of the village to be the best at what they do and offer services that maybe nobody else can compete with. There’s a lot of stores and services in this area that do a magnificent job.”

Acton says says Lumby is a comfortable place to be, not a lot of stress, not a lot of traffic with beautiful surroundings
