It’s Snow Time

Dec 20, 2017 | 9:12 AM

City works crews in Vernon are out trying to get the roads back in shape after the snow fall that began yesterday.

Some areas got as much as 25 centimetres, others much less.

Public Works Manager James Rice says plows started going full tilt just after 4 this morning to get the main roads ready for the morning commute.

The residential areas will be cleared going into the afternoon.

Liquid deicer had also been applied.

“Obviously with the cooler temperatures we’re hoping that the liquid deicer we applied before the event takes affect and we get the primary roads down to bare pavement hopefully by the end of today.”

If not, another application of deicer may be necessary.

In the meantime, homeowners can help.

“Obviously with the amount of snow from this event, we start to run out of room on your roads. So just a reminder to residents to please shovel driveways and sidewalks back onto front yard areas and not out onto the roadway.”

The city may taking a look at the downtown later this morning to determine if they actually have to haul away any snow.
