Options Explored For Coldstream Road

The District of Coldstream is trying to figure out how best to improve Middleton Drive.

It’s the extension from Middleton Way to Aberdeen Road, and is considered to be a future major roadway.

Mayor Jim Garlick says the road is very inadequate and needs a redesign.

“We need to look at a design that really better improves that access. It still a very narrow lane that serves a large population up on Middleton Mountain.”

Staff had recommended repaving as 450 metre section and widening the road where possible.

But the mayor says that could create further issues without further study.`

“There`s an old landfill sitting on the uphill side of that. So, If people think well you just dig into the bank and create the road wider that way. The limiting factor is opening the landfill.”

Which could result in huge costs and still leave a windy road.

“It is one hundred per cent development cost charge funded but there`s going to be additional money required to actually make it happen.”

Garlick says a realignment of the road is possible.

The district already has money in the financial plan for future work
