Update: North End Of Rail Trail Done; Use At Own Risk
The Regional District of North Okanagan issued the following release Friday:
Okanagan Rail Trail Status
The Okanagan Rail Trail is not officially open at this time as development continues throughout the corridor. Active construction remains underway in the City of Kelowna and Lake Country portions and users are asked to respect those continued closures.
Due to ongoing works, the public is reminded that the northernmost portion of the trail remains use at your own risk. For the safety of all users and to facilitate the timely completion of all outstanding construction activities, the RDNO asks users to adhere to posted signage and notices of closure along the trail until officially open.
RDNO along with its partners in the Okanagan Rail Trail look forward to a completion of all construction works and an official opening in 2018.
The RDNO thanks the public for their patience.
The north end of the Okanagan Rail Trail is the first to be completed.
Mike Fox from the Regional District of North Okanagan says basic trail construction on the 12 kilometres from Kickwillie Loop in Coldstream south, has been done
“I believe there is signage and some other work that has to happen yet, so we do recommended caution if anyone is using the trail. It isn’t formally opened yet.”
Fox says access is open to the public, but they should be careful.
“I believe the gates are up now and some counters, but not all the signage is done yet. The base level is done.”
There won’t be an official opening until all 48 kilometres of the trail from Coldstream to Kelowna is completed.
