Bulbs Being Lit For Campaign
Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation’s Light a Bulb Campaign is about a third of the way to its goal.
Campaign chair Dr. Curtis Mohamed says about 68-thousand dollars ($67,990) has been donated, with a goal of $250,000.
He says Light a Bulb is raising funds for cancer screening with a goal to replace the endoscopes in the Ambulatory Care Unit.
Surgeons use the specialized, flexible tubes with tiny, high definition cameras on the end to see if patients have any abnormalities.
“Early detection means more treatment options and better outcomes,” says Mohamed. “Screening helps find polyps that can be removed before they become cancerous.”
Last year, about 4,600 colonoscopy procedures were performed at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
Some of the donors contributing to Light a Bulb include the Vernon Elk’s Lodge #45, Book Warehouse, and Army Navy Air Force Unit #5.
