Giving Tuesday Event For Vernon

Today is Giving Tuesday  —  a day where Canadians are encouraged to support the causes they believe in and the communities where they live.

Linda Yule from the North Okanagan United Way says the program is into its 5th year.

“Giving Tuesday is a response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Maybe what you saved from those day could go to support a local charity. It’s just to encourage people to think about the spirit of giving,” Yule tells Kiss FM.

The public is invited to attend a civic celebration at noon today at Vernon City Hall, supported by Tim Hortons and Starbucks.

“If nothing else, it’s a kind reminder for people to make their annual donation, and it raises awareness for all charities,” says Yule.
