Pot Legalization: ‘Too Fast, Too Soon’
The federal government has started to unveil some of the rules for selling cannabis next year, but the local member of parliament says there’s still some major issues to work out.
Conservative Mel Arnold says Ottawa plans to split the tax revenue with the provinces, but he says that leaves out municipalities.
“Whether the provinces are going to have to split their portion with the municipalities is unclear. That’s what I’m hearing from some of the municipalities, is this is where some of the real costs end up, with bylaw legislation, with their enforcement and policing costs,” Arnold tells Kiss FM
Arnold says police and governments are telling him, the Trudeau Liberals are pushing the legalization too quickly, and agencies won’t be prepared in time for next July.
“They don’t seem to be wanting to move at all from July 1 of 2108. We think that’s a mistake because police departments and municipalities are relaying that message to the Liberals tme and time again that it’s too soon and too fast.”
