Mayor Adds President To His Duties

Vernon’s mayor is adding to his community duties.

Akbal Mund has taken on the volunteer role as president of the Funtastic Sports Society, taking over from Diana Williamson.

Mund was a first vice president prior to Tuesday night’s AGM.

“I’ll do it for now. There will possibly be a change before the end of the year,” Mund tells Kiss FM.

Mund says the role takes a lot of time and effort and he’s not sure he can commit to that.

“It’s a big organization. We do a lot of other community events and when you’re in the role of the president, and we don’t have an ED (executive director) right now, that’s a large commitment,” says Mund, a former Wendy’s restaurant owner who has been the City’s mayor since 2014.

Mund says there will be more discussion on the leadership issue at the board’s next meeting in October.

He says they have eight members of their board staying, three new ones, and four leaving.

On the resignation of ED Tony Pallas, Mund says he wishes Pallas the best in the future.

“I have nothing bad to say about Mr. Pallas. We’ve become pretty good friends. He chose to move on, so that’s fine.”

Mund says the board will decide the future direction for the ED position at their next meeting.
