Armstrong Welcomes 55 Plus BC Games

Sep 12, 2017 | 9:26 AM

The Mayor of Armstrong is inviting everyone to take in events of the 55 plus games being held in the city.

Chris Pieper says it should be a great time at the fairgrounds

“We’ll have hockey in the arena. We’ll have events in the curling ring, events in the Hassan Hall. There’s over a hundred competitors in equestrian.”

The mayor says the games will bring a big push to the economy of the city.

“Definitely means an increase. People are buying supplies. They’re camping on the fairgrounds. So they’re using our stores and businesses.”

The mayor says it’s too early to say what the financial impact will be.

” We’ll probably do a little investigation after the event. Just ask the local group, through the chamber what they thought about it and see what happens.”

Other than the fairgrounds, Armstrong Archers will host archery competition at its facility at 1428 Reservoir Road.

Cycling is taking place on Grandview Flats Road South, Otter Lake Road and Salmon River Road.

Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club will host the golf tournament Thursday and Friday.
