Sep 11, 2017 | 6:18 AM

Participants in the 55 Plus BC Games will start arriving in Vernon tomorrow.

The event will feature 36-hundred participants in 27 sports, ranging from archery to track and field, at venues around the North Okanagan.

That means a lot of people needing a place to stay.

“With the accommodations we have in the area with hotels, motels, bed and breakfast’s, camping we’ve been able to accommodate all the participants that are coming., Some are staying with friends.”

Organizing president Wee Yee says it’s a great opportunity to showcase the area.

“One of the activities we are doing is on Thursday night, participant event. What we’re going to do is we’re going to close off four blocks of downtown on 30th Avenue and we’re going to have a bit if a street festival, or as well call it a Taste of the Okanagan Artisan Market.”

Yee says unique local businesses like orchards and wineries will take part.

Sports events will be held in Vernon, Coldstream and Armstrong-Spallumcheen.

“We have two new sports, which is squash and mountain bike racing, so we’ve got decent attendance on that which is great. And we’re really happy though with hockey which is over 480 hockey players.”

Competition will start Wednesday, and wraps up Saturday.

Yee says athletes from 12 zones will march into Kal Tire Place for the opening ceremony on Wednesday night.
