Update: Wild Bring Game To Kal Tire Place

Delta Islanders won the game 11-4 over the Okanagan Wild at Kal Tire Place.

Friday July 7 story:

The Okanagan Wild play their one and only game in Vernon this season, hosting the Delta Islanders at 4 pm Saturday at Kal Tire Place.

The Wild play in the BC Intermediate Lacrosse League featuring the top 16 and 17 year old players in the province.

Wild governor and general manager Martin Gardner of Kamloops says they play 20 games in the 11 team league. (CLICK HERE for more on the league)

“The catchment area for the Wild is Merritt, Kamloops, Vernon. Armstrong, Enderby, Kelowna, Penticton, all the way to Osoyoos, so our team is comprised of the best 16 and 17 year old players from across the Okanagan,” Gardner tells Kiss FM.

The 25 member Okanagan team has a 4 and 12 record this season.

“How we got approval, we actually play our home games in Chilliwack. If you want to play a higher level of lacrosse, you have to travel to the U-S and the Lower Mainland, and these teams don’t want to travel to the Interior. New West doesn’t even want to travel to Burnaby.”

Gardner says he was able to get six Interior games this season.

“Vernon will be the sixth game we’ve played in the Interior. We’ve had two games in Kamloops, one in Merritt, one in Kelowna, and one in Penticton.”

Gardner hopes to have ten games in the Interior next year, including two in Vernon.

The Wild have one Vernon player: backup goalie Jordan Scherck.

The cost to get into the game is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, and kids are free.
