Morris/Cotter Team Win BC Final

The John Morris-Jim Cotter team from Vernon and Kelowna won the BC Men’s Curling Championship 6-3 over Dean Joanisse of Maple Ridge.

The Okanagan rink with Tyrel Griffith and Rick Sawatsky on the front end, went a perfect 5-0 at the event in Abbotsford.

It’s the fourth straight BC title for Cotter, Griffiths and Sawatsky.

The team will represent BC at the Tim Hortons Brier March 2-12 in St John’s Newfoundland.

Others qualifying are Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs, Manitoba’s Mike McEwen and New Brunswick’s Mike Kennedy who all defended their provincial titles.

A new champion emerged in Alberta with incumbent Kevin Koe already earning the Team Canada auto-berth. Brendan Bottcher scored an extra-end victory over Ted Appelman for his first trip to the men’s nationals.

The Vernon Kelowna team led by Jim Cotter and John Morris is into the final at the BC Men’s Curling Championship in Abbotsford.

The Okanagan rink is a perfect 4-0 at the competition after an 11-6 win over Dean Joanisse of the Maple Ridge in the one versus two qualifier game.

The Morris team will play in the final at 4pm Sunday against the winner between Joanisse and Glen Jackson of Victoria who square off at 11 am.

Other members of the Okanagan team are Tyrel Griffith and Rick Sawatsky.

Cotter, a 42 year old from Vernon, is seeking his 7th BC title, and his fourth straight with Griffith and Sawatsky who added Morris as their skip this season.
