Vipers Snuff Out Smokies
Steven Jandric and Jimmy Lambert both scored two goals to power the Vernon Vipers over the Trail Smoke Eaters 5-1 in BC Hockey League action Saturday.
A crowd of 1,663 saw the game at Kal Tire Place, the Vipers only game of the weekend.
Connor Brown Maloski scored Trail’s only goal with just over four minutes left in the third period. spoiling the shutout bid of Darion Hanson.
Vernon outshot the Smokies 49-31.
The Vipers have 63 points, and sit in second place in the Interior Division, 8 points back of the Penticton Vees.
The Vees lost 2-1 in overtime to the Victoria Grizzlies Saturday.
Langley Rivermen dumped Salmon Arm Silverbacks 11-2, and West Kelowna Warriors trounced Coquitlam Express 10-2.
Next up for the Vipers will be a visit to Merritt Tuesday.
In the WHL, The Kelowna Rockets completed a two game sweep over the Cougars in Prince George with a 5-1 win Saturday, after a 3-2 win Friday.
Nick Merkley scored two goals for the Rockets Saturday.
In the KIJHL, the North Okanagan Knights scored four goals in the third period, but lost 6-4 to the Coyotes in Osoyoos.
