Trudeau Opens Carnival

Vernon Winter Carnival got some high profile help for its kick-off this year.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a video statement to open the ten day event.

“Welcome to the 57th annual Vernon Winter Carnival. This is the largest carnival of its kind in Western Canada, and one of the biggest in North America,” said Trudeau in a video that was played at the Proclamation of Queen Silver Star Thursday night.

Trudeau says the festivities will be extra special as the event celebrates Canada’s 150th birthday.

“Throughout 2017, we celebrate generations of Canadians who come together for the greater good and created a more hopeful future for us all,” says the PM, who was invited to attend carnival by the organizers when the Canadian theme was first decided.
