Snowy Weekend In Store

The Okanagan is getting hit with another storm, that could bring snow throughout the opening weekend of Winter Carnival.

Rob Ellis, who runs a transport company, says the road conditions are treacherous, and he has this advice for drivers: “People need to slow down, and turn on all their lights. Daytime running lights don’t cut it,” Ellis told Kiss FM.

“People are doing 90 (km/h), and they shouldn’t be. They’ve got to slow down and take their time. They should also clear off their vehicles,” adds Ellis.

Meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau from Environment Canada says the good news is, the amounts won’t be extreme.

“We’re expecting about 5 centimetres today, and another 5 cm’s tonight, continuing into Saturday and Sunday. We might see five centimetres each day.”

Charbonneau says a snowfall warning has not been issued for the Okanagan.

“It’s looking like it will be below warning criteria, but over several days of getting snow, it will add up.”

Charbonneau says other areas are also getting snow.

“We have a couple of low pressure systems that have approached the coast and are now pushing inland and moving across. These are what will be spreading moisture in the form of cloud and snow right across the southern half of BC,” says Charbonneau.

A snowfall warning is in effect for Metro Vancouver which could get up to 20 cm’s by Saturday.
