NDP Unveils Climate Plan

Feb 2, 2017 | 4:00 PM

BC NDP leader John Horgan released his party’s climate action plan that he says will cut carbon pollution, create jobs, and double the number of residents getting rebate cheques.

“We want a made in BC solution that makes sure families aren’t baring the brunt of these increased costs. Families are already going pay cheque to pay cheque and shouldn’t have to pay for Ottawa’s increases,” Horgan told a news conference.

Horgan says 80 percent of families will get rebates, to offset a higher federal carbon tax, under his plan.

“This plan will ensure that 80 percent of families will have more money in their pocket, rather than less, when the new increases start in 2020.”

Horgan says his plan will cut carbon pollution and create good jobs, something he says Christy Clark’s government has failed to do.

“Instead she is using the carbon tax, a big chunk of it in any event, to go to her corporate backers, to keep the BC Liberal party going.”

Horgan says an NDP government will invest the remaining carbon tax revenues into jobs building public transit, and expanding green technology industries.

BC voters go to the polls in a provincial election May 9.
