Cold and Dry January

The North Okanagan had a lot of snow early in the season — but not so much in January,

Meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau from Environment Canada says there was only 15.3 millimetres of snow or rain over the month.

“And normal is 37.4 millimetres, so that’s about 41 percent of your normal precipitation for the month.”

Charbonneau says it was the sixth driest January on record for Vernon.

She also says the average temperature in January was minus 6.9 degrees.

“Normal is minus 3.9 Celsius, so that’s quite a bit colder than normal although it does not even break the top ten for coldest winters in Vernon.”
