Principal Makes Outstanding List

Feb 1, 2017 | 6:03 AM

It’s an honour students, staff, and parents can all be proud of.

So says Ellison Elementary’s Jacquie Taylor who made the list of Canada’s outstanding principals by the Learning Partnership.

She was one of just four principals to be honoured in BC, and among 40 in Canada.

Taylor says her school’s motto to “Be the best person you can be” has helped learning and attendance at the 350 student school.

“I feel like the students, teachers and parents are all behind that motto. There has been programs put in place, and supports that we have put in place, with reading especially, and self regulation, that we have seen great improvement in those areas,” Taylor tells Kiss FM

Taylor and the 39 other Canadian recipients will be honoured February 28 at a gala awards event at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto.

“The one part I’m really excited about is you go to an executive leadership course for five days, so I’m interested in what I’m going to learn. I’m a life-long learner, so the more I can learn to be a better learner, is inspiring for me,” adds Taylor who has been at Ellison for five years.

The Learning Partnership recognizes principals who demonstrate innovation, have an entrepreneurial spirit and are creative in finding solutions and opportunities for their schools and communities.
