Police Shooting Under Investigation

A police shooting in Salmon Arm is under investigation.

The Independent Investigations Office says a suspect in an alleged theft at a car wash in the 2300 block of 10th Avenue at 12:20 am Monday was shot when he tried to escape.

It’s believed the suspect did not have a weapon.

He is in hospital in unknown condition.

“IIO investigators will be conducting standard tasks including obtaining physical evidence from the scene, interviewing any civilian witnesses and designating and interviewing officers,” says Acting Director Marten Youseff.

Any potential witnesses are asked to call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.

The office is in charge of investigating all deaths or serious injuries involving police.
