Vipers Sweep Weekend Games
The Vernon Vipers might want to have Parents Weekends more often after sweeping all three games this weekend.
The Snakes capped it off with a 5-4 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings, getting the winning goal from Ryan Brushett at 3:29 of the second overtime.
It was Brushett’s second goal of the game.
A crowd of 1,609 took in the Sunday afternoon contest at Kal Tire Place.
After a 3-1 win over Interior Division leading Penticton Friday before a big crowd of 2,235, the Vipers blanked the Nanaimo Clippers 3-0 Saturday with 1,765 fans on hand at Kal Tire Place.
Darion Hanson was named the first star with 39 saves for the shutout.
Austin Adamson added two goals for Vipers who will host the Prince George Spruce Kings at 2pm today.
Many of the Vipers parents were in town for this weekend’s games, a tradition known as Parents Weekend.
In other BCHL action Saturday. Salmon Arm defeated Prince George 3-1 and Trail doubled Penticton 6-3.
In the standings, the second place Vipers have 58 points, 8 behind the division leading Vees.
In the KIJHL, the Chase Heat edged the North Okanagan Knights 3-2 Saturday.
Portland Winter Hawks defeated the Kelowna Rockets 5-4 before 5,318 fans at Prospera Place.
Nick Merkley had a goal and 2 assists for the Rockets.
