Civic Arena Thief Sentenced

A Vernon man has been sentenced for a break-in and theft at the Civic Arena last fall.

A number of toys and gift baskets for a minor hockey raffle were taken during the incident in october.

45 year old Derek John Hawthorne plead guilty to possession of stolen property over $5000, and to operating a motor vehicle while disqualified.

He was given three months in jail on both counts to be served concurrently, and a 30 month driving ban.

The Crown entered a stay of proceedings on two other counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.00.
