Amended Budget Gets First Reading

The Vernon School District has approved first reading of it’s amended budget for this current term.

It sits at $93.9 million dollars, up nearly $4-million from last year.

Board Chair Kelly Smith says this is a mandated move by the Provincial Education Ministry every year.

“So its simply making sure that all of the programs have been put in plan that were needed and the funds have been spent appropriately and I’m very pleased to say that they have been.”

The hike in the overall total from last year is due to a number of factors according to Smith.

“So many differences, more students came in, more funding came down, all the little pockets of money the Government has been sorting out across the province, so yes, it does make a difference on the bottom line.”
