UPDATE: Aug.18

Police have confirmed that the body recovered in Okanagan Lake on Aug. 16 was Travis Van Hill.

Original story

RCMP say a body was recovered from Okanagan Lake in the Vernon area that is believed to be a man who went missing more than three weeks ago near Ellison Provincial Park.

Const. Chris Terleski said police can’t confirm that it’s 55-year-old Travis Van Hill until a positive identification is made.

Terleski said the RCMP’s underwater dive team assisted in the body recovery on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Van Hill, a Vernon resident with a wife and four children, has been missing and presumed drowned since the shrimp boat he was on capsized during a late-night storm on July 24.

The discovery in Okanagan Lake came on the same day that the body of missing kayaker Eli Buruca was recovered by search teams in Kalamalka Lake.
