Best friends for 50 years win $2 million lottery jackpot

Two best friends in Kamloops are celebrating their 50-year bond with a $2 million lottery jackpot.

Susan Hook and Martha McCallum went in together on a BC/49 ticket for the Saturday (Aug. 17) draw, and matched all six numbers to win the seven-figure prize.

According to a news release from BC Lottery Corporation, the two women are both widows, and the day they found out about the win was the anniversary of Hook’s husband’s passing.

Hook and McCallum live together, and say the lotto win won’t change that arrangement. They say they will travel and plan to live “comfortable, but not flashy.”
