An RCMP team has recovered a body from Okanagan Lake.

The dead person was located at a depth of 170 feet of water, about half a kilometre from the shores of Kelowna’s Gyro Beach.

“West Kelowna RCMP are now working with the B.C. Coroners Service to identify the ‎deceased individual. Once an identification is made, police will then turn their focus on properly notifying the deceased’s family,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of Kelowna RCMP.

RCMP were being assisted in an ongoing investigation by a sonar ‎expert, who travelled to the Central Okanagan from Idaho Utah.

“We’d like to thank Mr. Ralston for his invaluable assistance with this challenging recovery,” stated O’Donaghey. “We’d also like to extend our appreciation to Shelter Bay Marina, Dockside Marine and Shoreline Pile Driving for their‎ support of our operations on the lake.”

No further information is being released at this time.
