Fire impacts Kelowna businesses

A number of Kelowna businesses have been impacted following a fire in a building on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 2:25 p.m., the Kelowna Fire Department dispatch center received a 911 call reporting a structure fire in the 3300 block of Sexsmith Road.

“We responded with four engines, one rescue truck, one ladder and a command vehicle with 19 firefighters to a commercial building with multiple businesses,” said Platoon Captain Jarret Dais.

Dais said crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire with hand lines and assistance from the fire suppression system in the building.

“One business sustained extensive damage with four other businesses impacted as a result of smoke and or water damage.”

Dais said the cause is still under investigation at this time and the RCMP have been called in to assist.
